Katherine Dietzel DuTremble's work which has developed to be more refined and dramatic each year, has come to define her style.
This internationally represented and award winning artist began her artistic career at the tender age of 7.
A native Louisianian, Katherine began painting in the plein aire style at historic Tropy Point located at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Her parents, recognizing an early aptitude for drawing and coloring, enrolled Katherine in oil painting lessons, and so, four decades later, she has continued her artistic endeavors. She studied for a BFA in printmaking at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Now residing in Charleston, South Carolina, monotypes and oils with vibrant colors and dramatic lighting occupy much of her private studio time. Described as evocative of deep emotion and mood, her work tantalizes the eye and warms the soul. Her vivid use of color enlivens the drama of her compositions of light and shadow. The viewer becomes mesmerized and can see impressionist influences. She also studied under the direction of Martin Ahrens, a fellow Louisianian and well known painter instructor, also residing in Charleston, and credits him for teaching her to see the color of light.
Katherine's numerous awards, including Best in Show, in national, regional and local art shows, reflect her versatility. An art critic commenting on her works represented in the German gallery: "She has a style all her own; her works show a color intensity and the lightness and transitory feel of watercolors. With her superb graphic skill she creates the finest color structures like magic. Her paintings seem to have an inner light, unusual compositions, and lovely color harmony."
Katherine enjoys patronage around the US as well as Europe and Canada. Enter into her dramatic world of color and light, you are guaranteed a memorable experience!
Katherine's most recent international exhibit was at the Kuntsmesse Exhibition in Saltzburg, Austria during the 2006 Mozart Birthday Festivals.
In the fall of September 28th through December 2008, at Louisiana State's Exhibition Museum in Shreveport, Louisiana, my father, former LSU 1958 National Championship Coach Paul F. Dietzel, and I hosted a special father-daughter exhibition and sale. The show was entitled
